چکیده

This short position paper proposes a task-ontological approach to geovisualization. Two recently identified challenges in geovisualization research justify such an endeavor, particularly for the webenabled domain: (1) the need for developing task-driven tools to facilitate problem solving and knowledge sharing amongst heterogeneous user communities, and (2) the lack of sound evaluation procedures to assess the usability of geovisualization tools.

User Evaluation of a Software Interface for Geovisualization and Communication of Uncertain Urban Ontologies

The study aims to evaluate a software interface that is developed for interactive representation and negotiation of spatial concepts of urban ontology terms such as ex-urbanisation to help communication and knowledge sharing between users. We conduct two types of user-evaluation; closed interviews focusing on general aspects of the interface, and in-depth interviews to deal with boundary issues...

Ontology Engineering by Combining Ontology Patterns

Building proper reference ontologies is a hard task. There are a number of methods and tools that traditionally have been used to support this task. These include foundational theories, reuse of domain and core ontologies, development methods, and software tool support. In this context, an approach that has gained increased attention in recent years is the systematic application of ontology pat...

3D feature surface properties and their application in geovisualization

New acquisition methods have increased the availability of surface property data that capture location-dependent data on feature surfaces. However, these data are not supported as fully in the geovisualization of the Digital City as established data categories such as feature attributes, 2D rasters, or geometry. Consequently, 3D surface properties are largely excluded from the information extra...

بررسی هستان شناسی های توسعه یافته مبتنی بر اصول هستان شناسی های منبع باز زیست پزشکی

Background and Aim: Ontologies facilitate data integration, exchange, searching and querying. Open Biomedical Ontologies (OBO) Foundry is a solution for creating reference ontologies. In this foundry, the design of ontologies is based on established principles which allow for their interactions as a single system. The purpose of this study is to determine the main features of ontologies develop...

Potentials and Challenges of Service-Oriented 3D Geovisualization

Virtual 3D city models are digital, georeferenced representations of spatial objects, structures and phenomenons of urban areas, which are increasingly built and leveraged in various application areas such as urban planning, environmental management and tourism. Visual representations of geospatial information and 3D city models in particular proved to be valuable means to facilitate thinking, ...
